One view of the whole system

What are LeanTrix external audits?

We go beyond a list of non-conformities.
We show what limits performance, what to improve first and how to sustain the change.

An external audit gives your organisation an independent view of how a process actually works. We review data, documentation, roles, standards and everyday practice, then bring the findings together in a coherent diagnosis. Our approach to management system auditing is guided by the ISO 19011 guidelines.

We tailor the scope to your challenge, from a single process to a comprehensive management system. Our methods include Lean Management, TWI, the Theory of Constraints, Hoshin Kanri, Toyota Kata, Six Sigma, TPM, ISO 9001 and IATF 16949, alongside requirements relating to KSC, NIS2, the AI Act and labour law.

Every audit concludes with recommendations prioritised by impact and effort, proposed KPIs and a plan for further action. Where needed, we also support a pilot, develop internal leaders and help roll out the solution.

FAQ

Frequently asked questions about external audits

If your audit spans several areas, we will build one coherent programme rather than a series of disconnected diagnoses.

What are external audits?

An external audit is an independent assessment of a selected process, system or entire organisation, carried out by experts from outside the company. It includes reviewing data and documents, interviews, observation of practice, and a report with priorities and recommendations.

How does an external audit differ from an internal audit?

An internal audit is carried out by people within the organisation and is usually part of its ongoing assurance system. An external audit brings independence, comparison with practice in other organisations and specialist skills that the company may not maintain in-house.

When should we commission an external audit?

When performance has stalled despite improvement efforts, before a major transformation or rollout, after requirements change, or whenever an objective diagnosis is needed. An audit is also a useful starting point for Lean, TWI, TPM, quality, cybersecurity, AI governance or HR improvement programmes.

Which industries do LeanTrix audits cover?

We work primarily with manufacturing and services, as well as logistics and e-commerce, healthcare, construction and multi-site organisations. We always adapt the methodology and team to the specific industry.

How is the audit scope agreed?

We start by discussing the problem, business objective, risks and available data. Together, we then identify the sponsor, processes, locations, participant groups, assessment criteria and expected outcomes.

External audits: organisation and outcomes

How long does an external audit take?

The duration depends on the number of processes and locations, and the level of detail required. A focused audit may take a few days, while a system-wide or multi-site diagnosis requires a phased schedule agreed after the scoping discussion.

Who should take part, and what should we prepare?

We usually involve the sponsor, process owners, leaders and the people doing the work. Before the audit, we agree which KPIs, procedures, instructions, previous audit results and other data are needed. We request only material relevant to the agreed scope.

What does the company receive after the audit?

You receive a summary of the current state, evidence and observations, a description of risks or gaps, quick wins and a prioritised list of recommendations. Depending on the scope, we also include a roadmap, KPIs, action owners and a proposed pilot area.

Does LeanTrix help implement the recommendations?

Yes. We can deliver workshops, training and implementation consulting, prepare standards, develop internal leaders and instructors, review results and support rollout to further processes or locations.

Does an audit prepare us for certification or an inspection?

A suitably scoped audit can identify gaps and help prepare your organisation for a certification audit, customer requirements or an inspection. It does not replace formal certification or a decision by the relevant authority. We always confirm the exact objective and criteria before starting.

Not sure which scope to choose? We will start with a short conversation about your constraint and business objective.
