Why this service is needed?

TWI in Healthcare helps hospitals, clinics and other healthcare organizations standardize work and train staff consistently in clinical, technical and support processes.

TWI in Healthcare – Job Instruction for safer, repeatable work

Healthcare combines high responsibility with frequent handoffs, staff rotation and complex procedures. TWI Job Instruction helps turn operational knowledge into a clear training method, making it easier to onboard employees, reduce variation and reinforce important quality and safety points at the workplace.

We connect TWI with our broader Training Within Industry approach, work standardization and digital instructions. Additional methodological context is available from TWI Institute.

TWI in Healthcare is implemented as a system, not only a training course. We return to instruction quality, actual use at workstations, onboarding results and instructor capability so standards remain current and effective.

Implementation support

We provide support based on the Kata process, which allows us to adapt our activities to the specifics of your organization, taking into account the jointly set goals. The Kata process consists of four key elements that enable effective implementation of assumptions.

Determining the course of action

Designing a concept that responds to the organization's goals and challenges.

Determining the current state

Learning about the current situation and collecting input data to define the next step.

Determining the target state

Determining the desired and measurable end result and a plan for its implementation.

Experiments - consultations

Implementation of activities in accordance with the established cooperation model, based on PDCA cycles.

We operate according to PDCA

P

PLAN

  • We conduct an introductory training session on the TWI program and the role of instructions in the medical environment.
  • We diagnose the current methods of onboarding staff and the standards of clinical and administrative work.
  • Together with the team, we identify operations critical to the quality and safety of care – applying the Pareto principle.
  • We design a schedule for developing instructions and assign responsibilities to leaders and instructors.
  • We adapt the TWI methodology to the realities of hospital work – taking into account shifts, rotations, and interdisciplinary collaboration.

D

DO

  • We train medical staff in the TWI Job Instruction methodology – step by step, on how to instruct a new employee.
  • We develop work instructions together with nursing teams, paramedics, and technical staff.
  • We implement the eTWI system for the digital creation and sharing of work instructions in hospitals and clinics.
  • We conduct practical workshops on creating instructions that take into account the specifics of working with patients.

C

CHECK

  • We verify the quality of the prepared instructions and their compliance with TWI principles as well as occupational health and safety requirements and medical law.
  • We gather feedback from instruction users – nurses, doctors, and technicians.
  • We check whether the new instructions are actually being used in practice.
  • We analyse the impact of TWI implementation on the quality of care, onboarding time, and the number of errors committed.

A

ACT

  • We introduce adjustments to the content and format of instructions based on the experiences gathered.
  • We expand the implementation to additional departments (e.g., Emergency Department, Operating Theatre, Laboratory).
  • We support leaders in strengthening a culture of standardization and continuous improvement.
  • We regularly update instructions in the eTWI system in response to changes in procedures and regulations.
